Julie Snidle here. I'm on the StencilGirl Talk Blog today to show you what I did with Lizzie Mayne's Twisted Lattice stencil. I love the movement of Lizzie's grid pattern.
Today I'm working on an 8" x 8" cradled wooden panel. Before adding encaustic paint, I prime my surface with 3 coats of beeswax, fusing between layers.
Once ready for paint, I apply a thin layer of Titanium white.
To add some interest to the white background, I've painted some contrasting neutral wisps and a few more white wisps. Notice how fusing (heating each wax layer) changes the overall appearance.
Love those surprises!
Let's add some black paint through the stencil now...
...repositioning the stencil as desired.
How about a little more paint for some additional texture and just a hint of celadon and peach. Okay, another layer of clear medium for good measure.
It needs a collage element, don't you think?
Here's how we add collage. Just dip with a metal tweezers, place on your artwork, and flatten with a shim. Thin papers work best. The wax is your adhesive.
I've decided to transfer some text using a toner copy and a spritz of water.
