StencilGirl Talk Blog Hop...

... Featuring Stamps and Stencils by Kae Pea.

I decided to create a piece that would fit in a small wood frame that I already had..

..using Kae Pea's 'Squares' stencil and these two stamps.
Check out all of her stamps here.

First I painted a background on my 7"x 7" illustration board using analogous acrylic paints.  Smooshing them with plastic wrap while the paint is still wet gives a nice textured look.

Next, I used Kae Pea's stencil to add a variety of squares with a sponge dauber.

Then I stamped the script and branch with an ink pad...

…and traced more squares with a pencil.

Of course I wanted more depth, so I added a sheer layer of paint over everything and traced more squares with a permanent black pen.  Love that stencil!

To complete my collage, I stamped the script and branch on matching papers as shown, cut them out, and applied them to my piece.  Once dried, I popped it into my frame.

Voila !

  34. My gosh, Julie. This is really an afternoon of learning. I love how you built up your piece and how you've shared it step by step with us. I didn't know that Kae Pea sold squares but now that I've seen it in use it makes so much sense to have it. The colors go very well with your piece and its frame. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm going to write down how you put this together. I would like to try one.

  40. Julie,
Wanna hear a secret? When I began scrapbooking (I am pretty sure it was a gazillion years ago), everything about it was 'square this' rectangle that' type of design. As a result, as I began 'evolving' into an artist, I despised the smooth and even lines, wanting EVERYTHING to be irregular. Seeing your process and the end result, those squares and rectangles are a sweet surprise! You know, maybe I will cut them a beak and 'invite' them back in on my artistic journey ;.)))
