"Grateful" a blog hop with Stencil Girl

I'm using Jane LaFazio's beautiful
'PODS' stencil
and encaustic paints on an 8 x 8 cradled wood panel
to create "Grateful".

I start by writing down some of the many reasons I have to be grateful.
(Although these words will be covered as the work progresses,
knowing that they're there inspires me throughout the creation of this piece.)
I then prime the surface of the raw wood with three coats of beeswax,
fusing with a  torch between each layer.

A thin coat of Titanium White is added to the primed surface, then fused.

I paint a thin coat of Alizarin Orange next and fuse.
Fusing is necessary
between each layer when painting with encaustic wax.

Stencil time!!  I apply encaustic paints right over the stencil;
light over dark, dark over light...

…repositioning the stencil and painting through it
with warm hues until I'm satisfied.

Swooshes of encaustic paint and coats of encaustic medium
are applied between layers to add depth.

This time I apply burnt umber encaustic paint through the stencil,

...remove the stencil and fuse again.

How about a little ochre Pan Pastel?  Pan Pastels loves wax!

Let's add some text with a transfer technique:
With toner copy face down, burnish onto the solid wax surface….
…and rub off the paper with a spritz of water.  Only the text will remain.
